The Des Moines Police Department confirmed Tuesday the identities of a woman killed, and man injured in a three-vehicle crash in the metro. Des Moines police said 56-year-old Des Moines resident Charla Harker died Tuesday in a crash at SW 9th Street and McKinley Avenue.Her husband, 45-year-old Matthew Harker, remains hospitalized with “serious injuries.” The remaining two drivers were not injured.Police said the couple’s minivan appears to have entered the intersection of SW 9th and McKinley against a red light, causing them to be struck by two vehicles traveling north on SW 9th Street.According to police, the two vehicles were unable to stop and crashed into the passenger side of the Harkers’ minivan.Police said, “Failure to obey a traffic control device appears to be a contributing factor to this crash.The Des Moines Police Department said it has not ruled out impairment or distracted driving.The crash remains under investigation by the Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit. No charges have been filed.
